Every home needs a ….. Digital Microscope

The photo is of fungi in the genus Anthracobia. Could be Charcoal Eyelash (Anthracobia melaloma). They are really small – you can see by comparison with the grains of sand around them.

The picture was taken with a very cheap and cheerful USB digital microscope that cost under $30. You can also use a loupe magnifier that clips onto your mobile phone.

What is that black gloop clogging up the filter in my washing machine hose?  It’s not wriggling which is a plus. Looks like tiny tree roots. Annoying, but not the end of the world.

The world looks very different in close up. You can see details that just aren’t visible to the naked eye. A digital microscope is a useful, entertaining and educational addition to your home.
