Here’s a list of plants Nelson Coastcare have found on the short walk from the Ocean Beach Car Park to the beach. The list shows the plant’s common name first, then its scientific name. If it has a * next to it, the plant is not native to the Nelson area and is probably a weed.
So, here’s your challenge. See if you can identify some or all of them yourself. Once you have made their acquaintance, you will know them forever. The photos in the gallery below will give you some clues and we may change them from time to time.
You can find lots of images and identification notes by searching on the web. It may be better to search by the scientific name, because the common name is often different depending on where you are.
