Livingston Island Project – Wet Feet in April 2024

Now, where did that Boardwalk get to?

Our attack on the Island’s Italian Buckthorn was going to start again at the end of March.  The best laid plans of mice and men…

Just in time for Easter and the school holidays, the river mouth did its intermittent and normal thing and closed.  One result, is that completion of the road works on Beach Rd are delayed.  Glenelg Hopkins CMA has offered to arrange access for us, but, for now, we had better just wait and let nature to take its course.  The Management Track and Boardwalk are out of action and the walking track near the car park is gumboots-only.  That makes for very long hikes carrying gear.

The mouth will hopefully reopen soon and things should dry out quickly.  But the Boardwalk will be slippery as an eel and the Management Track will be boggy for a while.

We will need to rethink where we work next – probably at the northern end of the Island.  If we are unable to get a vehicle in, we may need to defer installation of the new seat and posts and use temporary route markers along the walk for the Audio Guide.  The Guide is almost done, waiting on one last track! Our project completion date is May 31st.

This project is supported by the Victorian Government through the Coastcare Victoria Community Grant program.
