Our Vision
Nelson and its Ramsar site will be valued and appreciated for its ecological value by most of Nelson’s community and visitors. Government agencies will prioritise its welfare.
Our Mission
Nelson Coastcare is in pole place position to support physical engagement events, share knowledge about our area’s conservation values and leverage support from the public, government and not-for-profit organisations.
Our Core Purposes
To engage with the community through information sharing activities and education.
To participate in citizen science projects that will contribute to fulfilling knowledge gaps in our area.
To conduct on ground works that enhance our area’s environment.
Our Statement of Purpose
Nelson Coastcare will take action to conserve, protect and restore the High Conservation Value Aquatic Ecosystems of the Long Swamp Complex and associated Glenelg Estuary. This will be achieved by:
- Engaging the community, through information and education, to participate in activities that will renew the above environments and conserve them for future generations.
- Working towards achieving and maintaining accreditation as a Ramsar wetland for the system thereby further protecting the area and its endangered flora and fauna.
